January 2019 Update

Early in 2018, SPICE was thrilled to be awarded a significant project through Energy Efficiency Alberta’s Community Energy Capacity Building (CECB) Program which helped us complete our energy cooperative start-up.

The Government of Alberta, in consultation with SPICE and others, is now shaping legislative changes that will allow community solar to realize its full potential and diversify our economies through the Small Scale Generation Regulation, which will enable Community Generation in Alberta.

Additionally, the Government of Alberta is establishing a new opportunity for investors called the Community Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) Tax Credit. This is another newly developed legislation (from the Investing in a Diversified Alberta Economy Act) which will allow SPICE and other Opportunity Development Cooperatives (ODC) and social funds offering social impact initiatives, to offer a 30% tax credit for investors. SPICE is incorporated as an ODC and we are diligently working on the  development of community investment products to ensure our ODC successfully offers investors the opportunity to take full advantage of this tax credit.

Stay tuned!
